Let’s face it: most of us don’t have the luxuriously spacious bathroom of our dreams (or that everyone seems to have in movies and television). Even if your bathroom is on the bigger side, it would always be nice to have more space!
In this blog, we share our top 4 hacks for making more space out of a small bathroom.Whether in a bathroom in an older home or a modern powder room, your small bathroom can be made more functional and enjoyable with these easy ideas.
Let’s get started!
Storage Hack # 1: Over the John Cabinet
Most toilets have a significant amount of unused space on the wall above them. It’s the perfect place for an over the john cabinet.
These cabinets come in all kinds of styles and colours -everything from rustic wood to shiny chrome.
Some cabinets come with drawers and doors, and others are open for display. These cabinets may rest on legs or w installed directly on the wall over the toilet.
Either way, they provide excellent storage for towels, toiletries, and decor!
Storage Hack # 2: Recessed Medicine Cabinet
Although cabinets do make extra space for storage in your bathroom, they still may contribute to your bathroom feeling smaller – especially if you have large pieces of cabinetry. To eliminate this problem, consider a recessed medicine cabinet.
These are usually placed over your sink, and the storage space is recessed into the wall, so the cabinet doesn’t take a square inch of space inside your bathroom! If you get one with a mirror, that contributes to an even greater sense of spaciousness.
Remember that recessed cabinets can only be installed in interior walls, and considerations must be made for any electrical or plumbing inside the wall.
Storage Hack # 3: Drawers, Not Doors
This is one of our favourite hacks.
When you are looking for storage for a bathroom, you need a solution that will house various objects – towels, soap, toiletries, cosmetics, hair styling tools – and they are all different shapes and sizes.
To make the best use of space, consider drawers instead of doors on your bathroom cabinetry. Drawers can easily accommodate various objects and tend to stay far more organized and accessible.
No more stuffing your hairdryer into a tiny cabinet and hoping against all odds that the door will still close!
Storage Hack # 4: Accessories
Our final hack can be summed up in just one word: accessories!
You can add all kinds of space-saving accessories to your bathroom walls. Consider the following: a decorative hook for your robe, an organizer hanging from your showerhead, or a multi-level towel rack.
You can coordinate your accessories with matching finishes or mix and match for an eclectic feel. The only limit is your imagination!
